From Kay Moore:
I spent this past weekend (9/16 ~ 9/18) at a tour of Southeastern Guide Dog's facility just outside of Bradenton, Florida. There was a group from the Georgia Lion's Club who generously allowed us to travel down with them, on their chartered bus. It was an awesome trip, and has renewed my commitment to help SEGD in any way I can.
In the next few photos, we were blindfolded, and had to find our way from our dorm rooms to the dining hall in the Student's Building. It was certainly a different experience to try to find your way with a cane. (Or as Dana calls it, the "People Bopper"!) It was interesting to note that even with this short duration, your other senses started to compensate . . . feet sensed changes of surface, ears sensed the proximity of voices, as well as the relative expanse of rooms . . . very interesting. You really could get a sense for how terrifying this mode of travel could be. It was very difficult to figure out where you were and what you were hitting with the cane. It was also very disconcerting when things popped up out of nowhere to run into you or trip you up.
